I'm back to blogging

Here's what I've been up to in the past two years. Some of it, at least.

A ripple blanket for a baby girl.

A Burberry throw for a client.

A pineapple lace throw using this chart from www.mypicot.com.

A pineapple shawl using this beautiful pattern

A Spiderman blanket for a little boy, using this pattern.

A granny ripple, and finally...

A Tetris inspired baby blanket for the baby sister of the boy who got the Spiderman blanket.

Paperclip necklace

And this is how I spent my weekend.
I only have a wretched camera phone, but if anyone is interested in a tutorial, I will happily oblige.

New poncho Size S-M

I started this poncho for my niece, who keeps outgrowing hers. This is the third poncho I've made her, and I hope she likes it.

I used this poncho pattern, and the edging from this shawl pattern, and I really like the finished look of it. I just hope the young lady likes it too!

Ombre blocks baby blanket done!

Another reveal. This one is 2 weeks old.

I've been lazy about updating this blog, mainly because I have had a shortage of good crafty ideas to share with you, but mostly because I recently acquired a brand new glue gun that I spend my evenings (which is the only time I have to craft) ogling it!

Hey, hey, don't judge me!

Anyway, here is the ombre baby blanket I made for a friend. It's done in granny style, because I seem to be fixated on that for now. Enjoy...

Granny patchwork blanket done

I finally finished the patchwork granny blanket I was making for a friend's wedding present.

I made the squares over the course of 2 weeks, just took my time and did them whenever I felt like.

It's done in tomato red, maroon, and beige. The actual joining took me 3 days because of all the ends I had to deal with, but I am glad its finally done.

The blushing bride hopped around excitedly when I delivered it, and squealed over it most satisfyingly!
Are you ready for the big reveal? Shall I stop teasing you with a little hint of how gorgeous this granny blanket is?

Drum roll, please...

TA DAHHHHHH!!!!!

(In best David Attenborough voice)..."Observe the crochet granny blanket in it's natural habitat, as it basks in the sun".

Here it is again...

And the happy couple enjoying my hard work (they've washed the granny throw cushion on the right many times; remember it from this post?)

I love it when people love the things I make.

Some facts about this blanket
Time to complete: 17 days
Yarn: 30 balls of 100% Acrylic, approx. 1,200 grams, all made in Kano, Nigeria and bought at Wuse Market in Abuja at my LYS.
Hook size: 3.5 mm
Edging: A variation of the mosaic granny square I found on the inspiring lemondedesucrette's beautiful blog, combined with bunny mummy's edging pattern. I flattened the edging with this excellent tutorial, because grannies tend to buckle up and curl between joins and that drives my anally retentive heart crazy!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful day!

Peace and blessings from Nigeria!

Deep thoughts

I've been away from this blog for a while by choice.
I lost my father in December 2012, and ever since I have been feeling rudderless. I lack the motivation or enthusiasm for anything creative, to be honest.

So I decided to take some time off blogging and recover, so to speak.

To fully process and adjust to the fact that my hero is gone. He won't be here when I write my next piece, he won't snuggle under my latest crocheted blanket or taste the batch of cinnamin sugar cookies I baked last week.

He is gone from this plane, and we are left to mourn, remember and cherish his memories.

Part of me wishes he was still, but most of me is glad he is free at last.

And that's that.

I've observed my days of mourning with silence, and now I can speak freely. So I will.

Be prepared!
